Tulsi celebrates the depth and beauty of North Indian cooking, prepared with fresh ingredients, intentional spice balance, and recipes inspired by our family’s roots.
What does the name “Tulsi” mean?
“Tulsi” is the holy basil plant — honored in India for its healing qualities, comforting aroma, and deep spiritual meaning. The name reflects the heart and heritage behind everything we serve.
When did Tulsi open?
We’ve had the privilege of serving Richmond since 2017 — a daughter and son proudly continuing the legacy of their parents and the traditions of a small village of just 5,000 people.

Walk-ins are always welcome, but reservations ensure the smoothest, most relaxed dining experience — especially on weekends.
How long is the typical wait without a reservation?
On busier evenings, waits may range from 20–40 minutes. We’ll keep you updated and do everything we can to seat you comfortably.
Do you accept walk-ins?
Absolutely — we’re happy to welcome you whenever you arrive.
Do you offer outdoor seating?
Yes. Our umbrella-covered patio is open during all seasons except winter, offering a warm, lively view of Carytown.
Are pets allowed on the patio?
Yes — we adore our four‑legged guests and keep water bowls filled year‑round.

We welcome all guests, though Tulsi is intentionally designed as a calm, elevated dining environment that adults especially appreciate.
Is Tulsi accessible for guests with mobility needs?
We will always do our best to accommodate. Because our building is historic, we encourage guests with mobility needs to call ahead so our team can prepare accordingly.

Absolutely. Indian cuisine naturally highlights many vegetarian, vegan, and gluten‑free dishes, and our menu is clearly marked to make choosing effortless.

Are your dishes spicy?
We prepare your dish exactly the way you enjoy it. Spice levels range from 1 (mild), 2 (medium), 3 (medium-hot), 4 (“American hot”), and 5 (“Indian hot”).
Do you accommodate food allergies?
We take allergies seriously and prepare with care. While we cannot guarantee against cross-contact, we will do everything possible to support your needs. During our busier Friday and Saturday dinner hours, special requests may not be possible.

Yes — our Alphonso is a guest favorite. We craft it with premium gin, rich Alphonso mango, a delicate egg‑white foam, and a whisper of turmeric. It’s smooth, vibrant, and beautifully aromatic — a perfect expression of Tulsi’s creativity.

Where can I park when visiting Tulsi?
Carytown offers plenty of street parking along and around West Cary Street, with additional spaces available on nearby side streets. There is also a public parking lot directly across from the restaurant, which many guests find especially convenient. Like most restaurants in Carytown, we do not have dedicated parking — but the short walk through the neighborhood is part of its charm and energy.
Is the area safe to walk at night?
Yes — Carytown is lively, well-traveled, and full of energy. Many guests enjoy a stroll before or after their meal.
